Green Economy Peterborough Program Coordinator (Posted by EPC)

JOB PURPOSE: The Program Coordinator provides outreach, communications, and operational support to GreenUP’s Green Economy Peterborough (GEP) program. The role supports GreenUP’s mission to inspire and empower environmentally healthy and sustainable action in our community by drawing local business awareness to the benefits – including cost reductions, resiliency, and future-readiness – of participating in the green economy through operational improvements.
Our ideal Program Coordinator is an outreach and communications specialist who understands the business community and recognizes the importance of mobilizing local leaders to advance community well-being and climate responsibility. They bring strong, detail-oriented communications and organizational skills, a collaborative and strategic mindset, and recognize the potential of community-based solutions to create a vibrant, sustainable future.
The Program Coordinator works closely with the GEP Program Manager and executes program activities with their guidance.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Communications & Outreach (50%)
• Conduct the day-to-day development and delivery of GEP’s marketing and communications plan in consultation with the Program Manager and Communications staff.
• Oversee the organization, promotion, and delivery of four to eight annual learning and networking events supporting business education and peer connection.
• Co-coordinate the annual recognition event and awards ceremony to celebrate local business success.
• Compose the GEP newsletter, social media, newspaper columns, and media releases.
• Develop promotional and educational materials for businesses in consultation with the Program Manager and Communications staff.
• Engage with local businesses, stakeholders, and networks to advance sustainability awareness and GEP’s impact.
2. Program Delivery (35%)
• Support the Program Manager to facilitate GEP member engagement in sustainable practices through Green Economy Canada’s milestone process
• Support member greenhouse gas accounting and reporting needs.
• Support the development and delivery of initiatives that enable member success (waste audits, energy assessments).
• Stay current on business sustainability trends, strategies and best practices.
3. Program Administration (10%)
• Work collaboratively with the Program Manager to set annual goals and monitor trends in GEP’s growth, retention, financial accountability, and overall impact; identify and mitigate risks proactively.
• Support program development, activity tracking and funder reporting.
• Work with other GreenUP Program Coordinators to identify cross-program opportunities that support Green Economy Peterborough members.
4. Human Resources (5%)
• Adhere to GreenUP policy and procedures; complete required organizational processes (e.g., timesheets, internal policy review, performance evaluation).
• Fulfil all requirements for a Worker under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as those required by GreenUP’s own Health and Safety procedures.
• Support effective respectful working relationships among staff and promote an inclusive working environment where equity and diversity are centred.
• Participate in GreenUP staff meetings and working groups, as needed.
• Support recruitment and training of volunteers and placement students.
• Collaborate within GreenUP to support overall work and annual events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post-secondary degree in a relevant field (e.g. Communications, Business, Organizational Sustainability, Environmental Studies)
• Minimum three years of relevant work experience
• Experience with outreach activities, including developing communications campaigns, planning events, creating social media attributes and writing articles
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Experience with sales and/or working with customers or clients
• Familiarity with operational sustainability and sustainability measures (e.g., energy efficiency, waste management, fleet management, and active commuting strategies)
REQUIREMENTS:
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ease with learning new software and using digital collaboration tools.
ASSETS:
• Experience developing educational materials and presentations for an adult audience.
• Experience with facilities management, waste auditing, energy auditing, and emissions accounting and/or reporting.
• Experience facilitating meetings or chairing groups to achieve beneficial outcomes.
• Familiarity with sustainability concepts (e.g., ESG, circular economy, disclosure, embodied carbon), certification systems, reporting standards, and policy frameworks.
• Graphic design and photography skills.
