In its simplest form, the goal of the Local Employment Planning Council (LEPC) pilot is to coordinate efforts leading to ongoing and sustainable improvements in local labour markets for all stakeholders across the Workforce Development Board (WDB) catchment area. Ideally, now and in the future, those who want a job will have the skills and opportunity to get one, and employers will have an available supply of skilled workers when they are needed.
Closing in on that objective demands a strategic, coordinated approach involving a large and diverse group of engaged individuals and organizations who share the vision and responsibility, and bring the expertise to move it forward.
Across the Northumberland, Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton region, roughly 100 individuals, representing some 70 organizations are actively involved as members of the LEPC governance structure (Central Planning Table, Working Groups and Secretariat) community members and partners have embraced the opportunity and become actively engaged in this coordinated effort.
These community partners came together during the early stages of the pilot last year, were instrumental in identifying key local labour market issues and opportunities, the development of LEPC the strategic plan, and have remained engaged throughout the operational phase. We remain eternally grateful.
The strategic plan includes the completion of eight projects over the operational phase ending May 31, 2017. I am pleased to report that all of these projects are either completed or on track for successful completion.
