Industry and Business
Business, industry and the Workforce Development Board have been partners for well over a decade. Together, we are key participants in community consultations to identify trends and opportunities in the labour market that impact the workforce.
Ensuring a skilled workforce in the future is critical for sustainable growth of the economy at the local, provincial and national levels. By hosting the Regional Skills Competitions for Grade 11 & 12 students, the WDB encourages young people to consider a skilled trade as a career. Local businesses in the service area participate in the competition by acting as judges, sitting on committees and through sponsorship.
Educators
The Workforce Development Board enjoys an enviable alliance with all levels of education in its served area. Officials from secondary school, college and university levels are involved in a variety of programs that help students as they prepare to leave the school system and join the working world.
Classroom speakers, co-op programs, workplace tours, skills competitions, job shadowing, forums bringing educators and employers together, employment symposiums for Grade 7 & 8 students and parents are all tools in the WDB toolkit.
Community
To stay connected, the Board is involved with many community organizations such as two Manufacturers Associations, the Local Apprenticeship Committee, employment networking groups, the Community Employment Resources Partnership (CERP), Council for Persons with Disabilities and other local planning and coordinating organizations.
